Changes

I keep thinking that we're going to find a rhythm, a system, the same place to do our school work each day, a set pattern...

However, the longer we homeschool, the more I realize that we like to do things differently - changing things up a bit here and there so that things stay fresh, exciting, if you will.

It doesn't take much to make my kids excited.  Here's the most recent excitement on our homeschool front:

A "real" school desk.  :)  We bought this beauty at Goodwill for a whole $2.  We intended to clean it up and sell it again, using it as a lesson for our children in economics (which will hopefully be a post in the future).  However, it only sat in our basement for a couple of days before I wanted to bring it upstairs to see if Emilia would enjoy doing her school work at it.

She did.  She even took to raising her hand when she wanted help with her homework (grunting loudly when I didn't see her hand) and when she had to go to the bathroom.  Good grief girl...you don't need permission.  Just go.  ;)

We've never had school desks because there's not a lot of room in our house to put them and because we've always done most of the work at the kitchen table.  But this desk has been a hit!  Jonny even had me set up his own work station.  I'll have to get creative on placement if he wants a desk as well.  For now, he seems pretty pleased with this.

Emilia enjoys keeping her workbooks under the desk and having a semi-private area to work (they can get so distracted sitting across from each other at the table - "MOM!!!  I can't do my work.  He's LOOKING at me!!!").

Just today she told me, "I like doing my school work better now that I have that desk."

Hey, for $2, you can't beat it!

Not too many days later, we changed our "homeschool area" yet again.  Click here to see the new look!
