Trim Healthy Mama - Book Review

Have you seen this book yet?

I am finally getting a chance to read it - all 650 pages!

This book is FULL of common sense principles to guide you as you think about and participate in enjoying food while losing weight.

Yes, I said, ENJOYING FOOD WHILE LOSING WEIGHT.

Sounds good to me since I like to enjoy what I eat.  :)

Pearl and Serene both enjoy food, which is evident by the way they describe the recipes that they include in their book.  It seriously makes my mouth water.

I've made their Trim and Healthy Pancakes.  They're great!  EVEN my husband liked them, and that's saying something!

I'm only about 100 pages into this book so far, but I've taken lots of notes and am looking forward to learning more as I go along!

When I first sat down to read this book, I had just made myself a snack of one large, toasted bagel with cream cheese and strawberry jelly smeared all over it.  I was also drinking a cup of creamy, sweet, caramel coffee.

What can I say?  I like me some sugar!  But really, sugar isn't good for me, and I know I need to limit it.  I just don't always know how to go about limiting sugars while still having my meals and snacks taste good.

This is why I'm excited about this book!  They have included MANY recipes that they say will help curb my constant desire for sugar, as well as help me feel satisfied, but not deprived.

I have much to learn about how God made our bodies to process foods, why you should eat certain foods and not others, and how to go about consuming foods in a way that doesn't make you feel like you're missing out, but helps you stay healthy and lose weight in the process.

NOT that I'm trying to lose weight now...no.  I'm gaining weight for a pretty good (adorable, so sweet) reason - due in July.

But I am very interested in learning how to eat in a healthy way.

If you're interested in reading some counter-cultural advice with regards to how we consume foods, you'll want to read this book!  It's written in a very conversational, fun manner.  I've enjoyed what I've read so far.

PLUS, I have a friend, Mandi, who has been losing weight just by following these principles.  She was actually losing weight TOO quickly (!!!) so she decided to add in some more "crossover" meals to make sure she was staying healthy.

Amazing!

Our Week and Tommy Turns 3!

We had an enjoyable week around the time Tommy turned 3 years old.

He learned how to ride a 2 wheel bike a couple days before he turned 3.  My husband, Nate, was the instigator.  He saw that Tommy could balance really well on his Razor scooter, so he figured it was time to teach him.

Nate has taught all of our kids how to ride their 2 wheel bikes.  It's not an easy thing to run behind the bike while bending over!  I'm glad he enjoys teaching them how to do it.  I'll stick to math and literature.  Nate can have the bike training experiences.  :)

We also took at trip to the zoo with my in-laws.
We are now official zoo membership people.  Figured it was time since it will only take two trips to the zoo as a family to spend more than the membership.  So, friends who also have memberships, let me know if you want to go together!

Tommy is 3!

But pretty much any time you ask him how old he is, he says,

"I'm 7."

He makes us laugh!  Love you my little 3 year old.  :)

That same day, we took a trip to the beach.  It was SOOO hot!  The kids had a great time playing in the freezing cold water.

I may have sat on the beach wishing for a non-existent breeze...  ;)

Thankful!

Spring - Another Long Picture Post

This is our baby girl at 20 weeks.  I'm amazed at how much she already looks like her siblings, particularly Jonny.  We'll have to see if that's true when she comes!  I'm over 31 weeks along now...gettin' closer.  :)

"For you created (her) inmost being; you knit (her) together in my...womb.  I praise you because (she is) fearfully and wonderfully made!"  Psalm 139:13-14

We've been putting some work into our yard this Spring not only because our house is now for sale, but also because...well, it needed it!

Welcome Spring.  :)

We hired some friends from church to help.  Thanks M&M.  ;)

And this boy...well, he didn't get paid.

Look at those smiles!  They actually WANTED to do the weeding.  YAY!

The kids have performed in their end of the year plays at Wednesday school...

And sang in their Spring Concert from Wednesday School.

Wednesday School ended and we finished up our homeschool lessons around the same time.  Yay!

Picking them up on their last Wed.

We've been playing outside - a lot!

Sometimes with just us...

Sometimes with friends...

Love how all the moms are taking pictures!

I fell asleep for a bit while outside...so wonderfully warm and sunny...

Emilia took the three photos above this one.  :)

Spring soccer started

And we're all there cheering him on!

Learning hasn't stopped just because it's Summer...

New tennis shoes for Jonny.  Funny how something like shoes can make a boy so happy.

Emilia made lunch for us.  She was thrilled with the opportunity to do it by herself (and so was I!)  Love having an older child.  :)

One of the kids favorite things right now - messing around with my computer's camera.

Life is full of the goodness of the Lord.

Now, if only I could remember that ALL the time...
